DriveSort is a tool designed for sorting directory tables on volumes formatted in FAT12, FAT16, or FAT32 file systems. It is particularly useful for small portable devices like MP3 players or embedded systems where system resources may be limited. The tool allows users to customize the order of files on the disk, providing an alternative to the default order based on the order of addition to the disk.
Key Features:
- Sorting Options: Supports sorting by Short File Name, Long File Name, Logical Long Name, File Size, Creation Date, Access Date, and Update Date. Users can choose the sorting direction (ascending or descending).
- Folder Positioning: Options to group folders before or after files, or mix them together.
- Recursive Sorting: Supports sorting of a folder and all its sub-folders with the "Subdirectories" option.
- Manual Ordering Mode (Playlist Mode): Allows users to manually order files in a playlist by dragging them in the list. Available for files with long file names. Short file names are altered for playlist ordering.
- File Type Recognition: Recognizes .MP3, .OGG, and .WMA files by default in playlist mode. Users can add other extensions through the Extensions menu or DriveSort.ini settings.
